Chains see continued sales growth in July

A heady combination of half-term holidays, the World Cup and sunny weather had their effect on the UK eating and drinking-out market in June, with the country’s top restaurant and pub groups emerging with combined like-for-like sales up +1.4% on the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Coffer Peach Business Tracker.

Trading for the country’s top restaurant and pub groups remains a challenge, with collective like-for-like sales slipping -1.2% in May against the same month last year, according to latest figures from the Coffer Peach Business Tracker. Total sales, which include those from new openings, were marginally ahead at +0.3% on May 2009.

Groups see sales edge ahead in April

Predictions that trading will remain tight in 2010 are being borne out by the latest industry sales data from the Coffer Peach Business Tracker. The 15 major pub and restaurant operators participating in the Tracker survey collectively saw April like-for-like sales ahead just 0.7% on the same month last year. Total sales were up 2.0% on April 2009.
