TGI Fridays helps unemployed with Springboard tie-up

26 February, 2013

TGI Friday’s is making Springboard, which helps young people start careers in the hospitality sector, its new charity of choice. Fridays and Springboard will now work together to help recruit new team members, apprentices and work experience placements for those currently unemployed.

The tie-up follows Friday’s CEO Karen Forrester last year walking the Inca Trail with a formerly unemployed Friday’s team member in aid of Springboard. They raised £5,000.

The partnership builds on Friday’s existing commitment to help the young unemployed get their first step on the hospitality career ladder which sees approximately 50% of new restaurant team members start at the restaurant after previously being unemployed

Friday’s started working with Springboard last year, and is now part of the Springboard Business Partnership Scheme which allows partner companies in the hospitality, leisure, and tourism sector to benefit from Springboard’s service and industry experience .

Karen Forrester said: “We’ve already had 12work placements in our Leeds restaurants through Springboard, and are now working on a new intake for this spring as it was so successful.  The partnership is already off to a great start in terms of recruiting for our new restaurant openings; we’ve worked with Springboard on recruitment days in local colleges which have been great for sourcing team members to work in our kitchens.  This year alone we are committed to offering a minimum of 24 work placements and 12 apprenticeships by August 2013 - and are off to a strong start.  We’re all looking forward to a really fruitful relationship this year and beyond.”
