Subway trumps McDonald’s on Facebook

Subway has overtaken McDonald’s in numbers of fans on Facebook, making it the fast food king of social networking, says Brand Republic.
Its analysis of Facebook metrics put Subway on 245,231 fans, compared to McDonald’s 231,089. It also has more people ‘talking about it’ on Facebook—8,877 fans compared to 2,257 for McDonald’s.
Subway’s achievement comes after just one year on Facebook. Its social media activity has been built around community management and campaign engagement, says Brand Republic, with popular campaigns including activity around healthy eating. Its latest one is ‘Train hard, eat fresh’, featuring athletes who will be competing at this summer’s Olympic Games.
Subway’s achievement continues its inexorable rise in the UK and around the world. Last year it was revealed that Subway had also overtaken McDonald’s in terms of global franchise operations.
