Roof-top bars may be all the rage in big city centres, but a another phenomenon may also be ready to hit Britain - roof-top farms. They are already in the news in New York - and the first has just sprung up in London.
A supermarket in north London has just transformed its roof into an organic vegetable garden. See below to access TV coverage
The move mirrors a trend already taking root in New York. A group of entrepreneurs, led by restaurateur Ben Flanner, is developing a rooftop farm spread over the 40,000-square foot-roof of a building in Queens, New York.
Thornton's Budgens in Crouch End, north London, began its Food from the Sky project six weeks ago by planting the first seeds with the help of 20 volunteers. It plans to sell the produce in the shop below.
The New York project called Brooklyn Grange, will produce to be sold to local restaurants and at a farm stand at the Grange. The project has already received widespread TV coverage on Martha Stewart and CNN.
