Pizza Hut boss calls for staff respect
9 August, 2010
Restaurant workers in the UK deserve greater recognition and respect, Pizza Hut UK chief executive Jens Hofma has argued.
Writing in the Times, Hofma suggests that the country needs to take more pride in professions like waiting and cooking, and claims practical training of the sort offered by Pizza Hut can be just as important as the education offered by leading universities. “Hospitality training and an Oxbridge degree may seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum, yet both are crucial to the competitiveness of the British economy.”
He points out that staff turnover at Pizza Hut currently stands at a below-average 50%, while 85% of managers started out with the company at entry-level positions.
