Richards to leave Novus

Steve Richards is stepping down as chief executive of Novus Leisure after eight years in the role - and having last year led a £100m management buy-out and refinancing at the London-based bar and restaurant business. The search is underway for his successor.

Greene King is opening more Hungry Horses and Jamie’s Italian is opening a smaller-scale Jamie’s Trattoria brand in Richmond. There's openings too from Crussh, Wildwood, Geronimo, Prezzo, Nando's, Fullers, Rhubarb, Ossett Brewery and Milton Brewery.

May sales uplift for pub and restaurant chains

Pub and restaurant groups saw collective like-for-like sales increase 1.2% in May, against the same month last year. Total sales, including the impact of new openings, were up 4.5%, according to latest figures from the Coffer Peach Business Tracker.

Fullers managed pubs see 7% like-for-like growth

Fullers, the Chiswick-based pub operator and brewer, saw like-for-like sales in managed pubs and hotels grow 2.1% in the year to March 30, with lfls leaping 7% in recent trading in the nine weeks to 1 June. It also announced it is opening London's Pride, the only airside pub at Heathrow's new Terminal 2 next year.

Bramwell Pub Company is readying a major new concept for high street pubs - Wild Lime Bar and Kitchen. The first site opens in Southampton next week. It will be an all-day offer with flexibility the key, serving everything from coffee and breakfasts to late-night drinks.

M&B growing sales and profit in a 'tough market'

M&B, Britain's biggest restaurant and managed pub operator, saw total sales grow 2% to £991m in the 28 weeks to 13 April. Operating profit was up 5% to £145m. Like-for-likes sales were essentially flat, ahead 0.3%.

Marston's, the pub retailer and brewer, saw like-for-likes sales grow 6% in its Premium & Destination managed pub division over the six weeks to 11 May. It said it expected to open at least 20 new build pubs in the current year.

Britain’s pub and restaurant groups returned to sales growth in April after a disastrous weather-hit March. Latest figures from the Coffer Peach Business Tracker show collective like-for-like sales edged up 0.1% against April last year, compared to the 3.0% fall seen in March.
