Pizza Express to open next generation site; six appeal for Tampopo

Pizza Express has unveiled plans for a ‘next generation’ resthe brand. Meanwhile, Tampopo, YO! Sushi, Malaysian concept Jom Makan and Bavarian Beerhouses aare all looking to expand.
It will include breakfast opening, new dishes including monthly pizza specials, a street-facing kiosk and cutting-edge acoustic management. Pan-Asian chain Tampopo has opened a sixth restaurant in Reading’s Oracle retail and leisure complex. The company specialises in street food from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and other countries, and puts the emphasis on fresh, healthy ingredients and fast service.
The new opening also includes a ‘mini mart’ selling Asian produce for people to take home. The Reading site adds to three branches in Manchester plus one apiece in Leeds and Bristol. Tampopo is now eyeing sites in central London and the south east, and has ambitions to reach 20 in all.
Yo! Sushi is to open a restaurant at Brindleyplace in Birmingham. It will join a branch in the Selfridges store in the city. The planned opening continues a burst of expansion for the company, which passed the 50 restaurant mark earlier this year.
Malaysian concept Jom Makan is to open its third restaurant at Loughborough University’s students union centre this month. It joins two branches in London, at Westfield and Pall Mall.
The Brighton-based Real Eating Company has opened its fifth coffee bar site in Chichester. It adds to similar locations in Horsham, Bournemouth, Witney and Colchester, as well as Real Eating restaurants in Hove and Lewes.
German bierkeller concept Bavarian Beerhouses is planning to expand via a franchise offer. The company, which specialises in Oktoberfest-style table service, currently has two bars in the City of London, but hopes to open in cities including Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester.
