Binglo is the name of the new after-dark version of the game being introduced by Mecca to attract a younger crowd. It is one of several innovations introduced by parent company Rank to reverse the decline in the bingo sector.

The restaurant sector has coped with the recession better than many industry-watchers had thought. It seems eating out has become more deeply ingrained in the consumer psyche, and less of a discretionary item, than it was during previous downturns, says Algy Hall in Investors Chronicle.

Costa Coffee has introduced what it says is the most comprehensive loyalty scheme in its sector. The Coffee Club loyalty card will give customers five points for every £1 spent in its stores, with every point worth 1p.

Like-for-like sales sink 5% under January snow

Severe weather during early January took its toll on Britain’s eating and drinking out market. Leading pub and restaurant groups collectively saw like-for-like sales dip 5% against the same month last year, as people stayed home rather than brave the snow, according to latest Coffer Peach Business Tracker figures.
